This popular app is shutting down: Act now or lose your reward pointson May 13, 2024 at 13:20 Tech Advisor
In a move that affects hundreds of thousands of users, the Subway Official App is shutting down imminently and if you don’t act fast, you’ll lose your hard-earned loyalty points.
That’s right, Subway is closing down its popular official app to be replaced by a brand new one but any Rewards points you’ve built up or other offers will not be transferred to the replacement.
You have until 5pm on 14 May to use them or they will be gone forever. If you have 500 points, for example, you can get a free 6-inch sub so open the app, and your QR code is on the home screen and must be used in-store.
The app has been downloaded more than 1 million times so there’s a good chance this affects you.
The new Subway Rewards app arrives on 15 May and customers won’t be moved over automatically, though your existing account can be used. You will be prompted to download it and the old app will stop working.

Subway said, “We’re having a makeover, with a new levelling system, bigger rewards and surprise treats, the more you spend the better it gets.”
In a similar way to how Starbucks has Green and Gold tiers, Subway will now offer Rising Star, Hot Shot and The Boss membership levels.
All members will start at Rising Star and progress to Hot Shot when they spend £150 in a calendar year. Those who spend £350 in the same period will reach the prestigious The Boss level.
“We’ve switched from product-based rewards to Subway Cash, improved the programme benefits, enhanced the app and online member experience,” said the sandwich chain but hasn’t yet detailed what the three membership levels get you.
However, the firm has said the new system will be app-only so anyone with a physical card will no longer be able to use it.
One issue is that the app is no longer available to download from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store so you will need to have it installed already on your phone. You may see Subway Kuwait when you search for it but that’s not the UK official app, of course.
