Amazon Prime users in the UK are in for a price hike next week, with costs jumping by 20 percent for its annual plan.

The company is citing multiple reasons for the increases, including covering the costs of new content for Amazon Prime Video (such as investing in sports broadcasting), as well as inflation being at the highest its been in 40 years. There is also speculation that Netflix’s increased pricing may have also influenced the hike.

Amazon customers in the US received a price hike earlier this year, so this news doesn’t come as a surprise. Amazon Prime customers get next-day delivery, access to flash sales, TV and film streaming via Amazon Prime Video, e-books, music streaming and further perks.

If you would like to know what prices the new Amazon Prime subscriptions will be in the UK and how to avoid paying them, then we have everything you need to know.

How much is Amazon Prime increasing by?

Amazon’s UK Prime subscription costs will affect the monthly and annual plans, as well as the student plans. Here is what the price changes will be:

Amazon Prime monthly subscription: Increasing from £7.99 per month to £8.99 per monthAmazon Prime annual subscription: Increasing from £79 per year to £95 per yearAmazon Prime Student monthly subscription: Increasing from £3.99 per month to £4.49 per monthAmazon Prime Student annual subscription: Increasing from £39 per year to £47.49

As far as we are aware, Amazon will still have its 30-day free trial available for standard members, as well as its six-month free trial for new customers on the student plans.

So far, no increase for standalone Amazon subscriptions (such as Amazon Prime Video or Amazon Music Unlimited) has been confirmed. If we hear anything more, we will update this article.

Buy an annual subscription before the price hike

The price hike will happen on 15 September 2022 for both new and existing customers.

The best way to lock in for the lower prices – and save £16 – is to buy or renew an annual plan for £79 (or £39 if you’re a student). Make sure that you do this before 15 September 2022.

If you have not yet signed up for Amazon Prime, you can do so on the website. New users can get a 30-day free trial

If you want to renew your plan, here is what you need to do:

Head to your Account and then click on ‘Prime Membership’Click on ‘Manage Prime Membership’Select ‘Change Payment Option’Here you will be able to change your billing date and switch to an annual plan

Bundle in Amazon Prime with a mobile subscription

You can also save money on some Amazon Prime services by bundling it in with another subscription. O2 offers Prime Video, Amazon Prime Unlimited and Audible with its mobile plans.

Cancel your subscription

If none of these options are viable, then you can always cancel your subscription altogether. There is always the option of signing up again on a monthly basis, should you change your mind.
