The recent acquisition of Edpac, a Cork-based manufacturer of data centre cooling equipment and air handling systems, by Swedish group Munters, is set to create 30 new jobs in the area over the next 12 months.

Electricians, operators and project managers are among the roles currently on offer.

The €29m acquisition deal was announced in January. As part of the merger, Edpac will be known as Munters from today (April 11). Operating in more than 30 countries across the world, Munters specialises in energy efficient air treatment.

Prior to the merger, Edpac had been a manufacturing partner for Munters’ Oasis systems and it will shortly begin producing other Munters data centre tools for export.

The Irish company’s precision cooling equipment and air handling systems are used in data centres around the world. Its client list includes several of the largest hyper scale and co-location data centre providers in Europe, Middle East and Asia.

The company formerly known as Edpac has two manufacturing facilities in Ireland – Newmarket and Carrigaline – and employs around 150 people in the country.

“The European data centre market is a prioritised segment for Munters and the acquisition is a significant step in our growth strategy,” said Klas Forsström, president and CEO of Munters.

Forsström was joined by Ministers Simon Coveney, TD and Michael McGrath, TD joined as well as more than 150 employees of Edpac in Carrigaline, Co Cork. They marked the company’s official transition to the Munters Group.

Coveney said he was “particularly delighted” by the deal considering it was taking place in his hometown and constituency. He said he hoped that Edpac’s merger with Munters would “further solidify the company’s continued success,” adding that “today’s jobs announcement is a strong indication that the new ownership see the value of the talent and team here in Carrigaline, and are committed to investing and supporting the innovation here.”
