Black Friday is here, and there are some big savings across numerous Roku products, from 4K streaming sticks to the Roku Streambar.

There’s now even more reason to supercharge your home entertainment setup, with discounts across the range reducing the entry price to just $17.99 in the US, and £13.99 in the UK – a tiny fee in exchange for access to more than 500,000 movies and TV shows available on-demand.

Black Friday will be followed by Cyber Monday on 28 November 2022. So far, the best deals on Roku products have been from Amazon – you can get free delivery on any purchases by signing up for Amazon Prime.

Which Roku should you buy?

If you don’t have a TV that supports 4K HDR, buy the Roku Express. This streamer is differentiated from its siblings with full-HD (1080p) resolution at 60fps and an infra-red remote controller. It is also the cheapest of the lineup.

Step up to Roku Express 4K if you want to benefit from 4K HDR streaming and a Bluetooth remote, though note that this doesn’t have a power button or volume controls.

The Roku Streaming Stick 4K has improved hardware providing the smoothest wireless and streaming experience, with support for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. The supplied remote is also capable of controlling your TV, and the dongle design is potentially easier to tuck out of sight, but otherwise this stick’s features match that of an Express 4K.

The Roku Ultra offers additional features such as private listening, whilst the Roku Streambar offers the additional benefit of being a speaker and media streamer combination.

Why we love Roku

Roku media streamers sit in the same camp as the Amazon Fire TV Stick, Google Chromecast and Apple TV. In essence they plug into a TV via its HDMI port, then offer up an intuitive user interface that simplifies streaming content from almost any on-demand or subscription TV, movie or music service. BBC News, ITV Hub, YouTube, Now TV, Disney+, Apple TV+, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Deezer, Spotify… Roku has it all.

Most useful for televisions without smart functionality, buying a Roku is going to be a lot cheaper than upgrading your TV. But even smart TVs can benefit from Roku, with its vast support for streaming channels and service-wide search function that makes unearthing must-see content a breeze.

You can control Roku using the bundled remote control, the free mobile app, or using your voice.
