Taoiseach Micheál Martin, TD has cut the ribbon on data-wiping firm Blancco Technology Group’s new site in Cork.

The new facility on Lapp’s Quay in Cork city centre has capacity for up to 34 employees. It is Blancco’s first centre of operations established in Ireland.

The Cork site will be a centre of excellence in research and development and a strategic hub for Blancco’s global business. The Texas-headquartered company has offices in locations around the world including Finland, the UK and India.

Blancco is expected to invest several million euro in job creation, skills training and R&D in Cork as it grows its existing team.

“This represents a significant milestone for the Blancco Group,” said CFO Adam Moloney.

“We’re investing heavily in our operations in Ireland, and it will be a key strategic hub as we accelerate our international expansion. With this launch we look forward to adding new members to our growing business.”

Blancco previously added six new roles in Ireland when it acquired Cork-based data protection firm Inhance Technology in 2019. The deal was reportedly worth more than €5m.

The company plans to continue hiring in Cork with some roles in the process of being filled. Current openings are listed on the Blancco website.

Blancco operates a hybrid working model across all its locations, so new recruits can expect a mix of on-site and remote working.

IDA Ireland, which has supported Blancco’s investment in Ireland, welcomed the opening of the new facility in Cork.

“The establishment of this strategic R&D hub for Blancco in Cork is a testament to the south-west region’s highly skilled and talented workforce and reinforces IDA Ireland’s mission to boost jobs and investment for regional locations,” said IDA executive director Mary Buckley.

Listed on the London Stock Exchange, Blancco conducts tens of millions data erasures each year, helping clients comply with data protection and privacy requirements and also securing their data against unauthorised access. Its data erasure services also aid in the reuse of data storage assets, enabling more sustainable IT operations.
